New European hub for Travelport mooted in capital

DUBLIN, Ireland - A leading UK-based technology company serving the travel and tourism industry is to expand it's Dublin operations to service the group's widening client base across Europe.

Travelport's new sales centre will focus initially on growing the group's small-to-medium-tier European customer base. Initial hiring will target sales, account management and customer support, with 22 new positions expected to be created in the first year and further recruitment planned over the following two years.

"We are delighted to announce the expansion of our operations in Dublin. The creation of an inside sales team is proof of our commitment to the Irish economy and comes on the back of four years of strong results and development since we established our digital operations here. Our decision to locate this European inside sales centre in Dublin is also due to the availability of highly skilled people for these roles," Paul Broughton, Director of Business Development for Europe, Travelport, said Wednesday.

Welcoming the announcement, Ireland's Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Heather Humphreys said: "Ireland is a vibrant technology hub, and this announcement is a further reflection of our attractiveness to companies operating in this sector. We have the skills and talent to enable companies like Travelport to grow and embed their operations here and I look forward to seeing their continued growth and success over the coming years."

Travelport operates a travel commerce platform providing distribution, technology, payment and other solutions for the global travel and tourism industry. The company facilitates travel commerce by connecting the world's leading travel providers with online and offline travel buyers in a proprietary business-to-business (B2B) travel platform. The group has a leading position in airline merchandising, hotel content and distribution, car rental, mobile commerce and B2B payment solutions. The company also provides IT services to airlines, such as shopping, ticketing, departure control and other solutions.

With net revenue of over $2.5 billion in 2018, Travelport is headquartered in Langley, U.K., has over 3,700 employees and is represented in approximately 180 countries and territories.
