The New York Red Bulls on Monday signed Brazilian goalkeeper Carlos Coronel to a three-year contract with an option for the 2025 season.

The move completes the transfer of Coronel from Red Bull Salzburg.

Coronel, 24, made an immediate impact during his first full season with the Red Bulls. His 13 clean sheets tied Nashville's Joe Willis and Colorado's William Yarbrough for the MLS lead.

"Carlos was a big part of our success last season, and we are delighted to extend his stay with us," said Kevin Thelwell, the team's head of sport. "Finishing as one of the top goalkeepers last season made it an easy decision for us to bring him back."

Coronel posted a 13-12-9 record with a 0.97 goals-against average, which tied Luis Robles' franchise single-season record. Robles set the mark in 2018.

"Carlos is a big talent and I am pleased to see him back with us," Red Bulls coach Gerhard Struber said. "Not only is he a good person to have in our locker room, but someone who is key to build upon our success from last season to the next."
